Cross Encounters
About this series
Easter Encounters
Join us as we launch our Easter sermon series “Easter Encounters.” We’re going to learn from different people’s encounters with Jesus on his way to the cross and beyond the grave.
Sermon resources
Barabbas (Matthew 27:15-26)
Simon of Cyrene (Matthew 27:31-32)
Now what?
Dwell on the Cross . . .
Ask Yourself
1. In what ways doest he story of Barabbas in Matthew 27:15-26 picture the theology of what Paul writes in Romans 3:23-25?
2. We don’t know what Barabbas’ response was to being set free. What should it have been? We have been forgiven and set free by faith inChrist’s death in our place. What is the only reasonable response to this truth (see Romans 12:1-2)?
3 What is the difference between the cross Jesus bore for us, in our place, and the cross He invites us to bear as His followers? Read Luke 9:23, Romans 8:17 and Philippians 3:10. What is the cross we are called to bear or the sufferings we are invited to share with Jesus?
